Consultation
Your consultation plays an important role in your breast augmentation process. Dr. Aaronson will evaluate your body type, discuss your desires, and determine your needs. It can be helpful to bring in pictures of your ideal breast look. Together, you and Dr. Aaronson will decide on an implant that best suits your needs and natural body shape. During this time, you will also provide your medical history to ensure that you are healthy enough and a good candidate for breast augmentation surgery.Implant Options
Saline Implants - These implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation in women 18 years or older. Saline implants are comprised of a saltwater solution that fills a silicone shell. A wider variety of incision options are available, but these implants may be more prone to visible wrinkles and rippling in certain patients.
Silicone Implants - These implants are FDA approved for breast augmentation in women 22 years or older. Silicone implants are made from a cohesive, form-stable silicone gel. Many people feel that silicone better simulates the look and feel of natural breast tissue, but this type of implant can limit your incision options.
Techniques
Incision Options - The placement of your incisions may depend on your implant type and the desired visibility of your scarring. The best incision option will be determined during your consultation.
- Inframammary - Along the lower breast crease
- Periareolar - Around the border of the areola
Implant Placement - Where your implants are placed will affect the final resting position of your implants and the overall shape of your breasts.
- Subglandular - The implants are placed under the glandular breast tissue but over the pectoral muscles. This limits implant distortion caused by muscle contraction.
- Submuscular - The implants are placed below both the glandular tissue and the pectoral muscles. In the right patients, this can create the most natural-looking breast slope.
